Diamond Jo on Schedule
28 November 2005

NORTHWOOD, Iowa – As reported by the Iowa Globe Gazette: "The walls of the $40 million Diamond Jo Worth Casino west of Northwood are up and officials are still confident of an April 2006 opening.

"'We're right on schedule,' said Carrie Tedore, public relations manager for the Diamond Jo casinos, whose headquarters are in Dubuque. 'The outside is weather tight' and ready for inside winter work, she said.

"Henkel Construction of Mason City is the general contractor for the 60,000 square-foot project that broke ground on June 9.

"…The casino, located on a site north of the Top of Iowa Welcome Center about six miles west of Northwood, is the first of four new casinos to be built in Iowa, following the granting of four licenses earlier this year by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.

"The casino will include a large gaming area that will feature more than 500 slot machines, as well as table games including blackjack, craps, roulette and three card poker…"

It looks like Iowa is moving ahead with the four new casinos to be built, one already in progress, as you mentioned.

"The new casinos, all in areas of the state that are not near existing casinos, will be in Worthwood, Waterloo, Riverside and Emmetsburg."

This is an interesting point I thought:

"Although the new casinos no longer must be on navigable bodies of water, but they still resemble those pioneering riverboats.

The four are permanently moored barges. They have to have water under the casino floor, but they are essentially buildings,” said Wes Ehreke of the Iowa Gaming Association."

“It’s not a boat; it’s land-based,” said Rob Denbo, marketing director for Orange County Tourism Development. “It is not floating, and you won’t feel like you are on a gaming vessel. It will basically be built on stilts with a lake around it.”

More progress for the casino gambling world!

Interesting, certainly pressing ahead with things.

The sooner it's up, the sooner they can pay for the development I suppose.

It's a lesson people must learn, know your limits - I'm more liberal and prefer the freedom of choice aspect, although I do agree with you that there will be problems brought about by it jhasper.

Keep us posted.
