A good poker player can be beaten by luck. It happens it’s poker. It’s the way the game goes. What has really been driving me crazy lately is bad players who think they are good and better then you cause of their luck. Players who make bad calls and end up out drawing you with only two or three outs. Possibly their luck has built them confidence in their play, rather then show them where they made mistakes. What really sucks is these player don’t know how bad they are or how lucky they are. I am talking about the players who can’t out play you, only out draw you. They think they out played you but just got lucky. I would like to hear every ones opinion one these types of player. Opinions, advise suggestions, whatever. I found the only way to truly beat these types of players is play good defense, or put them to a decision for all their chips, and even then that some times does not work. I would like to hear every ones opinions on these types of players.

I play with some people like this on the regular. It is really frustrating at times.

My honest advice?

Check your ego at the door.

Who cares if he thinks he is good? And who really cares what he thinks of you? My only concern for either of those topics is if that psychology somehow affects play.

If someone has a high or low ego, I often will use that to my advantage. If they think they are a better player than me, then I let them think that until I nail them. Usually repeatedly. This might put them on tilt, and then the table and I take the rest of his money. Conversely, if the player is a defeatist, I will put more raises and re-raises into him than usual. Sometimes, I can figure out a way to verbally push him into tilt based on his ego type.

Occasionally the high or low ego player will win anyway, and that's just poker. but don't let it have any effect on your ego or worse your playing. In the long run advantaged play will always come out on top, and sometimes that is the only satisfaction you will get.

Finally, if you repeatedly lose to those types of players, be honest with yourself and look for reasons and leaks in your game.

Dont worry about losing to lucky players its probably better for your game. Lucky players will win 1/10 times to a skilled player(mostly likly less), and then they get over confident and will keep playing their horrible game, and you'll be able to get your money back when they make a huge mistake trying to draw against you.

It always ticks me off too when you get out drawn by a lucky player and he/she thinks he's a good player, but the beauty of it is the next time he trys drawing againt you and you have the nuts, you take all of their money. Luck can only get you so far in poker.

Lady luck eventually rights all the wrongs if you wait long enough. I've had opponents that I played against for months that had small leaks that would seem to be rewarded way out of proportion to the true odds. They would get positive reenforcement for making a mistake, so they kept making it, often leaving a winner, and frustrating the hell out of the solid players. But then, as time passes, those unprofitable moves become just that : unprofitable. Those same players will complain of horrible luck and bad beats and how the game is rigged and on and on until they disappear from the poker scene. You will see the same thing happen in time.

Play for long enough and you'll come out even, that's just how it goes. Everyone has bad streaks, everyone has good streaks. The best players maximise the wins and minimise the losses, that's what being a great player is all about.

It's frustrating to see bad calls rewarded and cards coming from nowhere on the river, but it all happens and it's something that will happen for you one day, too.
