|

Am curious as to how many women are out there that actually really play poker on WSOP? It just seems that if i add up all the women i have seen from every card room i have every visited in the city, and add that number to the amount of women i see playing on tv, i am using the fingers on one hand.
now on one hand it would be nice to not sit across the table from some grizzled old man calling me sonny. or sitting at a table with kids who i would swear are playing with the lunch money that mom gave them that morning.
of course i must look at the other side of view. playing against a woman who is just halfway decent looking and my IQ would drop a good fifty points. so do i really want that?
like i said, it's a curiousity, they must be out there, after all this is mental sport, not a muscle one, so would just think there would be much more of them.
(awaiting someone to misunderstand this post and start a flame war) |

Well, there are a few more than five! There are at least ten professional women poker players, not many, but they're there. Several of them have won big money in the WSOP, but don't believe any have won the championship game. It's still a "man's world..."lol. Annie Duke is one who won't play in a tournament that's only for women, as I understand. After all, she says, women are just as capable as men in a game like poker. Anyway, hopefully, we'll see our "poker rights" improving over time! Of course, having something nice to look at should improve your game, not hurt it... |

Hehe they are a few more than you'd think, and no they don't make it known because although they might put off the average red blooded male, they would probably be set on like a pack of wolves!
Same as females don't make themselves known in a lot of online games and gambling, don't ask me why, they just don't. I'm certain there are far more playing than the number of fingers on one hand though |

| Then too, some men feel that women shouldn't play poker or other card games...they might have to watch their language, what they drink, etc., etc...although I think women who choose to play with men are not concerned with silly things like that. They're there to win and just maybe, they will...lol |

Hehe, hey a lot of men do watch their language and alcohol consumption. Then again, some sneer, try to play them out of games and get taken out rather embarrassingly. Must be a male thing |

I haven't known many women of this type, or care to! I'm from the South, ladies are ladies... |

| Oh right, so if I make a trip to the north I can expect more biker chicks more than happy to spit on my shoes and throw a fist in my face then? Hehe, I really hope I don't offend any northern ladies with my sweeping generalisation! |

lol...well, I went to school in the Northeast, lived on the West Coast, born in the South. Basically, one usually thinks of women in the South as being a little more "genteel" and not quite so abrasive as the go-getters on the East Coast..just my opinion. There are, of course, exceptions everywhere you go. Women on the West coast are a mixed group...career women, beach buddies, and ditzy blondes...but again, there are exceptions! |

Hehe, we've got everything but the beach buddies - we have some that dress as though they are going to the beach, but are more likely to spend the week with pneumonia(sp?) instead!
We have a similar division here as well, the women tend to be a little more abrasive up north come to think of it. That is more due to the north/south divide - the southerners are on average much more well off than those in the north, and this seems to contribute to some being more.. upper class and lady-like (same is true of the men, of course).
I still think a mixture is a good thing though |

I think it dates back to Scarlett and Rhett, and Ashley, poor thing! Alas, the days of chivalry are gone..but female libbers have brought that about...but, careers are good, complete dependency is not...lol
Off-topic again...but basically, fewer women play poker than men and I don't think they are as accepted in the poker world as readily as men...just the way it is! |

I don't think it's that they aren't accepted, more that they never really played the game up until recently. Think about the originations of the game and you'll see that it was played in bars and those were more frequented by the male species.
I personally welcome them into the fold, but then again maybe I would. Women are better liars though, so we have to watch out more for the bluffs - they look very convincing! |

..lol..I have to admit we're pretty good at such things, small lies, evasiveness only! True enough, bars were for men and ladies were not considered ladies if they frequented those places..my how times have changed..lol |

Hehe, I'm sure I'm outnumbered in the vast majority here now
Small ones? Big ones too! Nah I'd best not say too much otherwise I might get a nasty pm from the female members of the board |
