I'm sitting in a NLHE tourney waiting for a decent hand. I finally get KK. I'm one behind the button, blinds are 100/200 and 3 people have called including the chip leader at the table. I go all in and everyone folds except the chip leader who calls with an 8/10 os. He hits an 8 & a 10 and I'm gone. Did I make the right play?

Ok. How about this? Just got beat at a tourney where I was dealt KK again. I am on the short stack with 10,000 chips. The antes are 200 and the blinds are 1,000/2,000. I am in the middle and pot raise. Everyone folds except for the chip leader who has about 50,000. We see a flop. It is J 6 7 rainbow. I am now on the short stack so I go all in. He calls and has a Jack pairing up. The next card is a blank. So now there are only 2 cards out of 28 that can beat me. Assuming nobaody else mucked a J. Of course he gets the J on the river.

Is this bad luck or bad playing? I don't know what else I could have done.

Limp and hope for a set with KK, are you kidding me? Barring AA, you are the heavy favorite preflop to any hand, and you say to limp and hope for a set? You raise and hope for no ace and if you are short stacked you go all in, especially against the chip leader. Limp and hope for a set. Has to be a bad mistake, interpertation, typo, something.

You made the right play both times. Your opponents caught their cards to beat you. In the first situation, I'll take T8o against my KK any day. In the second situation, your opponent was drawing to 5 cards remaining in the deck and caught one of those cards. That's just a bad outcome for you, but I'll take my chances against a 5-outer anyday. You'll get beat occasionally but you'll come out well ahead overall. Them's the breaks, so they say. Don't get discouraged, it happens to everyone.

Also, you're looking at probability math wrong if you say there are 28 cards left in the deck to beat you. You should only be concerened with the number of cards that you've actually seen, not the ones left in the deck. It's as equally likely that the opponent's five outs are dead as they are left in the stub. All you know for sure on the turn is the 4 community cards and your 2 cards, plus your opponents cards if he opened his hand when you were all-in.

Nothing you really could have done. In your situation, going down with each round of blinds, you have to grab the best hand you can and run with it.

You did just that, and although we all know KK isn't a guaranteed success, far from it infact, it isn't a bad hand to go all in on if you're in an ever increasingly desperate situation.
