I was playing poker a few days ago at a party, it was a really low limit game with unexperienced players, not a game I am used to. The biggest buy in was $20 (mine) and it was all just for fun - still I was troubled when I lost $13.
I started playing tight and I noticed that everyone was playing REAL loose but about half the players were also very aggressive when they had anything - making draw hands hard to play. I didn't go up the whole game. I didn't try to bluff but I just always seemed to get beat when someone would hit their low set on the turn or river.
After some time I (went on tilt and) started playing lower value hands only to the flop. My logic at the time was that if I hit my hand hard (a set, top 2 pair, flush) I would get called right to the end and make a ton - if not I would just dump the hand. This didn't help much and only sped up my losses.
Should I have stayed tight to the end or was my newer thinking correct? We only played for 2 hours - is this type of thing inevitable in short sessions with loose players?
I don't really care about the $13 but I do want to know how to play against similar players in the future. |

sounds very similar to my experience when i play against "casual" players who plays to socialized. unless you can play against them on a consistance bases, there no sense in playing this game except to practice and drink.
i find that when playing against these type of players, i can beat them when i play tight. it's going to be hard to buy a pot from these guys as they'll call w/anything |
